Born: September 20th, 1984 in Fairfax, VA
Siblings: One older brother, Louis
Childhood: I lived in Northern Virginia for the first 9 years of my life, and then we were relocated to Raleigh, NC for my Dad’s job. We lived the fairly typical suburban lifestyle, where exciting weekend activities in high school consisted of things like going to the movies or hanging out at the local diner. When I was 16, I got my first job – retail working at a luggage store – which I worked at on and off through college.
College: I didn’t stray too far from home for college by attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I double majored in Sociology and American History and worked several internships as a research assistant and at a non-profit connecting those in need to local services. During my time at UNC, I grew my passion for college basketball (and hatred for Duke). Go Tar Heels!
Career: Following college, I started my career in education research in Washington, DC. Come this August, I’ll have spent 10 years at my job. It’s been full of opportunity, challenges, learning, great colleagues, and growth, and some of my closest friendships started in those office halls. It’s also given me the opportunity to travel the world!
Hobbies: Cooking and baking top the list. I also enjoy crafts and playing hostess. Love travel. I’m an avid reader and enjoy long walks (really, beach or no beach, I’d rather walk than drive or take transit pretty much whenever I can).
Favorite color: Purple (this will become evident with all wedding related things)
Favorite band: Hanson! Yes, those three brothers who sung MMMBop wayyyy back when. And yes, they are still around and are making great music. :-)
